Walnut Grove Annual Events
Fall Semester
Spring Semester
Kickoff to KindergartenK students will get to meet the kindergarten teachers, make new friends before the first day of kindergarten, and become more familiar with our school. The kindergarten teachers will use this time to get to know your child and briefly assess them on a variety of skills to help them make class placements. Registered students will be sent a link to sign up for a session. |
Back-to-School BashEveryone is invited! At the Back-to-School Bash, students and parents get to meet their teachers, purchase spirit wear, meet our sponsors, find out about activities throughout the year, and chat with PTO reps about ways to get involved. |
Grades 1-2 & 3-5 Open HousesA parents-only event! These nights are divided by grade level, Grades 1-2 and Grades 3-5. Parents meet their students' teachers in their child's classrooms and get a more detailed overview of the school year. Room parents will also speak to their classes and talk about volunteer opportunities for the school year. |
Newcomer BreakfastDo you have a kindergartener? Did your child transfer to Walnet Grove, or did you recently move to the area? All parents who are new to Walnut Grove or have a new student enrolled are invited to breakfast! Meet fellow parents and some of our PTO. Have questions? We have answers! |

GrizzlyFestWGES PTO's annual back-to-school celebration! Held a few weeks after school starts, Grizzly Fest is the perfect chance to reconnect with old friends, meet new ones, and celebrate the beginning of an amazing school year. Bring the whole family for an evening packed with giant inflatables, games, delicious food, and plenty of Grizzly spirit!
Best of all, every ticket purchased and every game played helps raise funds that directly support our school. Come make memories, build community, and help make a difference—one game at a time!
Grizzly Fest is also a great way to volunteer at the school - no matter how much time you are able to commit. |
Volunteer Opportunities:Parents are asked to help run the individual events, keep time, keep score, and hand out popsicles. Each class will ask parents to sign up to bring snacks. |
Field DayOur amazing PE coaches plan an action-packed day of friendly competition, teamwork, and nonstop fun. Students take on exciting challenges like obstacle courses, cone-stacking relays, and everyone's favorite event—the epic Tug-of-War! Classes compete in two divisions—Lower School (K–2) and Upper School (3–5)—and every grade has a shot at taking home the bragging rights.
Don't let the younger Grizzlies fool you—they're just as determined, competitive, and capable of coming out on top! It's a day filled with laughter, school spirit, and memories our students talk about long after the final whistle blows. |
Book FairThe Walnut Grove Book Fair ends with a beloved Book-Character Parade and Read-a-Thon.
Book fair flyers are sent home to allow kids to preview some of the Scholastic books that will be available. Your child will have an opportunity to shop the book fair during school hours at a special designated time with their class. Parent volunteers and library personnel will be on hand to assist students with their shopping. There will also be at least one Family Shopping Event before and/or after school.
